UK Shared Date Letters (1975-Present)
From 1975, all UK assay offices use the same date letter cycle, changing on 1 January each year.
Hallmarking Act 1973
The Hallmarking Act 1973 (in force 1 January 1975) unified UK hallmarking. Previously each office had its own date letter cycle with different changeover dates. The Act introduced a single shared cycle for London, Birmingham, Sheffield, and Edinburgh, with letters changing on 1 January.
